  • Seven Steps to Heaven

Seven Steps to Heaven is a studio album by the great jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. It was recorded and released in 1963 for Columbia records. At the time of this recording, Miles Davis was still looking for a new band and the album captures this search for a fresh sound. In Seven Steps to Heaven, Davis already had bassist Ron Carter in the group. Davis also uses pianists Victor Feldman, who played on half the set, and Herbie Hancock. Seventeen year old Tony Williams is on the drums for the second round of sessions. Tenor saxophonist George Coleman lends his unique style and sound throughout the album. For a record that is the product of a transitional phase, it is very strong and moves along seamlessly.
