  • Fleetwood Mac in Chicago

Fleetwood Mac in Chicago was recorded in January 1969 during the band’s first US tour. Fleetwood Mac had just expanded to a quintet with the addition of guitarist Danny Kirwan, and together they recorded this album in one day at the famed Chess Records in Chicago (home to Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, among others). Fittingly, Fleetwood Mac enlisted the help of blues men Willie Dixon (bass), Walter “Shakey” Horton (harmonica), J. T. Brown (saxophone), Buddy Guy (guitar), Otis Spann (vocals, piano), David “Honeyboy” Edwards (guitar), and S.P. Leary (drums). Their studio jams feature a mix of blues covers and originals. Howlin’ Wolf cover “Ooh Baby,” Elmore James covers “I’m Worried” and “I Can’t Hold Out,” and Peter Green’s “Watch Out” are some of their best. Originally released as a double LP, the recordings were later issued as two separate volumes, Blues Jam in Chicago Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.
