  • The Mars Volta

The Mars Volta have made some of the most challenging and creative music in recent memory. Formed in the aftermath of the post-hardcore band At the Drive-In, the El Paso group features the core duo of mastermind Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and the perpetually airborne vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala. They turned heads (and likely broke some amps) with their 2002 Tremulant EP and 2003 full-length debut, De-Loused in the Comatorium, which pioneered a totally insane new breed of prog-rock that combined the influence of free jazz, Latin music, and psychedelic rock. In 2009, they took home a Grammy for the song “Wax Simulacra” off of 2008’s phenomenal The Bedlam in Goliath LP. Much like their intricate, highly conceptual music, the Mars Volta’s vinyl packages are EPIC in both art and sound quality. Take a look!
