    Oklahoma

As the first musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Oklahoma has always been a fan favorite. The musical tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with Laurey Williams. First opening in 1943, it was an instant success and ran for over 2000 performances and later went on to win several Tony Awards for revivals it subsequently had. Oklahoma epitomized the development of the “book musical” which is a musical play in which the songs and dances were made into a more dramatic setting and plot. The music of Oklahoma can still be heard on vinyl where you can truly enjoy songs such as “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’” and “People Will Say We’re In Love.”
