  • Stanley Clarke

When it comes to bassists, the Grammy Award-winning Stanley Clarke is up there with the best of them. He is well known for his 1970s work with the Chick Corea-led fusion band Return to Forever, as well as his innovative ’70s solo bass recordings like 1976’s largely influential School Days. Clarke has also scored a great deal of television and film, his credits as diverse as Boyz n the Hood and Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. He has a distinct bass technique, approaching his electric like an upright to produce a percussive, slapped effect. Needless to say, you’ve got to hear this on vinyl.
