Arnold Schoenberg
An Austrian turned American composer, Arnold Schoenberg was mainly known for the expressionist movement in German poetry and art. He was also the leader of the Second Viennese School and was known for extending the opposed German Romantic traditions as well as a pioneer in the use of atonality. He developed the twelve-tone technique and was widely influential in composition as well. With over 50 years of modern art music, it is staggering to listen to his dramatic works on vinyl such as Erwartung and the ominous Pierrot Lunaire, op. 21.
