West Side Story

West Side Story is a Leonard Bernstein musical based on Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Set in the 1950’s in New York City, West Side Story explores the rivalry between two gangs from different cultural backgrounds, but it is the score of the musical that has become so popular. With songs such as “Jet Song” and “Somewhere” the musical itself was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical and won a Tony Award for best choreography. With a number of revivals in London and much international success, the soundtrack to West Side Story is best heard on vinyl.
