  • Sade

This British smooth-jazz band takes its name from lead singer Sade Adu. Exuding elegance and sophistication, Sade combines elements of R&B, soul, and jazz in a way that works both as mood music and on the dance floor. The group’s 1984 debut album, Diamond Life, made a huge impact with the bossa-nova tinged hit “Smooth Operator” and became the best-selling debut ever by a British female vocalist up to that point. A steady stream of high-charting albums and awards followed, including the 1994 Grammy for Best R&B Performance for the song “No Ordinary Love.” In 2010, Sade released its first new album in a decade with Soldier of Love and took home its fourth Grammy. The combination of Adu’s cool vocals and the band’s Latin percussion and swinging horns is absolutely seductive on vinyl.
