Martha and the Vandellas
Martha and the Vandellas were among the most successful groups in Motown during the 1960’s. They had a much harder R&B sound then other groups of their time such as heard in “Nowhere to Run” and “Dancing in the Street.” Martha and the Vandellas had 26 hits recorded in numerous different styles such as doo-wop, R&B, pop, blues, rock and soul. Ten of their songs reached the Top 10 on the Billboard R&B singles chart and led them to be recognized as one of the greatest girl groups of all time. When you hear the songs “Heat Wave” on vinyl you can just imagine being part of that time period when they ruled the charts.
