  • Rumours

Despite great turmoil within the band, Fleetwood Mac followed the commercial success of its 1975 eponymous blockbuster with one of the best-selling albums of all time, Rumours (1977). Coinciding with the dissolution of John and Christine McVie’s marriage, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks’ breakup, and Mick Fleetwood’s divorce from his wife, Rumours feeds off of this internal tension and lets the romantic drama authenticate its songs. A flawlessly consistent album brimming with singles – “Go Your Own Way,” “Dreams,” “Don’t Stop,” “You Make Loving Fun” – Rumours won the Grammy for Album of the Year and remained at the top of the US charts for 31 weeks. Buckingham’s “Second Hand News,” Nicks’ “Gold Dust Woman,” and the only song written by the entire band “The Chain” also became popular radio hits. Praised for its excellent three-way vocal interplay, songwriting, and raw emotion, Rumours is an essential pop-rock masterpiece that balances honesty with commercial appeal.
