  • Cheap Trick

Lovingly heralded as “The American Beatles” by the Japanese press, Cheap Trick combined the songcraft and guitar pop of these famous Liverpudlians with the hard-rock edge of metal and punk. This combination of loud riffs and catchy melodies left an enormous imprint on popular music of the last few decades, paving the way for power-pop, arena rock, and even alternative rock. Releasing their self-titled debut in 1977, Cheap Trick went to the top of the American charts in 1979 with their live album At Budokan and the single “I Want You to Want Me.” Their other big hits include “Surrender,” “Dream Police,” and “The Flame.” Fun Fact: April 1st is officially Cheap Trick Day in the band’s home state of Illinois.
