  • of Montreal

Of Montreal, the Athens, Georgia indie-pop collective formed by Kevin Barnes in 1996, has earned its reputation as one of the most quirky bands around. Its sound is an avant-garde amalgam that draws from a kaleidoscope of influences ranging from the Beatles’ psychedelic pop to Prince’s glam-funk. Of Montreal rewrote the book on how to release an album when its 2008 record, Skeletal Lamping, came out in 10 different formats including wall decals, tote bags, and a paper lantern equipped with a digital download code. They have also reminded us about the artistic possibilities of vinyl with their exquisite album art. And while it can take some guts to make it through all the twists and turns of their records, their musical creativity pays off in full. No one can explore raw emotions through flamboyant indie-pop like Barnes.
