  • Tom Petty

Combining ’60s British Invasion pop with harder Southern rhythms, Tom Petty and his band the Heartbreakers revitalized rock in the late ’70s with their first three albums – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (“Breakdown,” “American Girl”), You’re Gonna Get It! (“I Need to Know,” “Listen to Her Heart”) and Damn the Torpedoes (“Don’t Do Me Like That,” “Here Comes My Girl,” “Refugee”). The hits continued well into the next decade both with the Heartbreakers (“Don’t Come Around Here No More” off of 1985’s Southern Accents) and solo (“Free Fallin'” and “I Won’t Back Down” off of 1989’s Full Moon Fever), as well as with the late-’80s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. But the great thing about Tom Petty is that his albums are just as phenomenal as his singles (see 1994’s Wildflowers) and flat-out awesome on vinyl.
