  • Echo & The Bunnymen

Influenced by Scott Walker, the Velvet Underground, Television, and the Doors, Liverpool’s Echo & the Bunnymen achieved cult status in the early ’80s with their distinct style of post-punk psychedelia. Their masterpiece came in 1984 with the majestically haunting and orchestral Ocean Rain, which produced the unrivaled hit “The Killing Moon.” This was followed by “Lips Like Sugar” from their 1987 eponymous album. After significant line-up shifts in the late ’80s and a split in 1993, the band was reformed by its founding members, vocalist Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant, and bassist Les Pattinson in 1997 (though Pattinson left again in 1999), and remains active today. The thick, brooding atmospheres, visceral tension, cavernous vocals, and stormy elegance of their doom and gloom sound has not only been hugely influential but is amazing on vinyl.
