  • Weird Al Yankovic

When it comes to musical comedy, Weird Al Yankovic takes the cake. The accordion-playing, polka-loving pop parodist has earned three Grammy Awards over the course of his 30-plus year career and “polked” fun at everyone from Nirvana to Lady Gaga. While working as a DJ at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s university radio station, Weird Al recorded his first single, “My Bologna,” a parody of the Knack’s “My Sharona.” Interestingly enough, it was the Knack’s lead singer, Doug Fieger, that pushed for the song’s release on Capitol Records – a move that ultimately launched Al’s long and hilarious recording career. Some of his classic parodies include “Another One Rides the Bus,” “Eat It,” “I Love Rocky Road,” “Like a Surgeon,” and “Amish Paradise.” Weird Al has also written a large number of original comedic songs satirizing pop culture. Described as a musical genius by Kurt Cobain and respected by everyone from Michael Jackson to Jimmy Page, Weird Al is even more side-splitting on vinyl.
