  • The Prodigy

Regarded as one of the main pioneers of the big-beat genre, the Prodigy will always be intrinsically linked to the ’90s underground rave scene. Their 1992 debut album, Experience, goes down as a landmark release in British rave music history. However it wasn’t until 1996 that they ignited a fire in the U.S. with their single “Firestarter.” They fanned these flames with their next (highly controversial) single “Smack My Bitch Up.” Combining breakbeat techno and industrial metal—later with punk and rock elements as well—the Prodigy was truly the premier dance band for the alternative masses.
