  • G Love

Garrett Dutton, AKA G. Love, got his start busking on the streets of Philadelphia with his guitar and harmonica. Influenced by both Bob Dylan and Run-DMC, he combined blues guitar with hip-hop vocals, later incorporating funk, soul, and even psychedelia into his sound. Dutton formed G. Love & Special Sauce with drummer Jeffrey Clemens and bassist Jim Prescott after moving to Boston, and their 1994 self-titled debut nearly went gold thanks to single “Cold Beverage.” Collaborating with a then-unknown Jack Johnson on the 1999 album Philadelphonic, G. Love later signed to Johnson’s Brushfire Records for the release of 2004’s The Hustle, 2006’s Lemonade, and his latest release, Fixin’ to Die, on which G. Love teams up with the Avett Brothers for a more country-influenced approach.
