Duke Ellington
As a renowned composer, pianist and bandleader, Duke Ellington is still considered one of the most influential figures in jazz music. He called it “American music” rather than jazz because he was beyond a genre of music. With too many Grammy awards, honors and inductions to count, Duke Ellington and his orchestra provided America with amazing compositions and showpieces such as “Black, Brown and Beige” which told the story of African Americans in great detail. Listening to Duke Ellington on vinyl is like sitting in the Cotton Club in the 1920’s.
