  • The Go-Go’s

The Go-Go’s were the first chart-topping all-female band to write their own songs and play their own instruments. Initially born in the Los Angeles punk scene, the band, which was fronted by singer Belinda Carlisle and singer/guitarist Jane Wiedlin, soon embraced a power-pop sound that took them to the top of the charts. Their 1981 debut album, Beauty and the Beat, was one of the most successful debut albums to date. It was also immensely influential to the American new wave movement. Though the Go-Go’s disbanded in 1985, their era-defining hits like “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” and “Vacation” have outlived the ’80s, and their time-tested albums have proved even better on vinyl.
