  • Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys became the best-selling new artist of 2001 with her debut album, Songs in A Minor. Featuring the hit single and Song of the Year “Fallin'” the album earned Keys five Grammy Awards and went platinum in 10 different countries. 2003’s The Diary of Alicia Keys continued this success, racking up more Grammys and helping to cement Keys as one of the top R&B artists of the ’00s. Raised in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, Keys (born Alicia Augello Cook) began playing classical piano at age seven and graduated at 16 from Professional Performing Arts School as the class valedictorian. Incorporating classical piano with R&B, soul, and jazz, she is often referred to as the “Princess of Soul” and her sultry contralto vocals are especially powerful on vinyl.
