  • Ani DiFranco

Rising to prominence in the ‘90s, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco is a highly prolific artist and strong feminist icon. She became the folk singer of Gen X, bridging the political and the personal in her poetic lyrics and paving her own path in the music industry. She freed herself from the corporate rock world by forming her own record label in 1989 and releasing her own music long before the D.I.Y. revolution. When major labels came a knockin’, she rejected their offers and earned the attention of mainstream media on her own with 1995’s Not a Pretty Girl, 1996’s Dilate, and 1998’s Little Plastic Castle. And DiFranco has been releasing socially relevant, empowering albums ever since. One listen to them on vinyl and you’ll say her staccato guitar and distinctive rhythmic voice have never sounded better.
