  • Counting Crows

No music-loving soul in the ‘90s didn’t know Counting Crows or their signature hit “Mr. Jones,” a song about the fantasy of making it big that ironically became a massive hit. The Berkeley, California band’s 1993 debut, August and Everything After, was the fastest-selling album since Nirvana’s Nevermind and brought a moody roots-rock sound to the alt-rock landscape. Influenced by the Band, Van Morrison, and R.E.M and characterized by the yearning vocals and tortured lyrics of Adam Duritz, the Counting Crows were a refreshing break from the harshness of grunge even at their most somber moments (“Round Here,” “A Long December”). That poignancy translates gorgeously to vinyl.
