  • The Lemonheads

Formed in 1986 as a punk-pop trio, Boston’s the Lemonheads would go from early-‘90s alternative teen idols to the songwriting vehicle of the band’s only constant member, Evan Dando. The group’s breakthrough came in 1992 with the major label release of It’s a Shame About Ray, which was followed by the Lemonheads’ hit cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson.” After going on hiatus in the late-‘90s, Dando reformed the Lemonheads in 2005, releasing a new eponymous studio album in 2006 and an album of covers, Varshons, in 2009. In addition to having a knack for offbeat covers, Dando had a love for Gram Parsons, and you can hear a country-rock influence in the Lemonheads’ music, especially their 1990 album, Lovey.
