  • The Replacements

The Replacements are widely credited as the pioneers of alternative rock. Fronted by Paul Westerberg, this Twin Cities band combined the classic rock influence of Big Star and the Beatles with the punk rock energy of the Clash. Ranked #15 on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s” list, their 1984 breakthrough album Let It Be established the Replacements’ commercial appeal and songwriting ability. The band veered away from the mainstream, however, and eventually disbanded in 1991. While the Replacements’ shows may have been drunk and rowdy and their videos not accessible enough for MTV, their vinyl is indisputably awesome.
