  • David Lee Roth

David Lee Roth has been many things: a flamboyant heavy-metal frontman, a radio personality, an EMT. After his departure from Van Halen in 1985, he teamed up with guitarist Steve Vai, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer Gregg Bissonette and recorded his solo debut, Eat ‘Em and Smile. Released in 1986, this hard-rock classic produced the MTV and radio staple “Yankee Rose.” Its 1988 follow-up, Skyscraper, followed suit with the hit single “Just Like Paradise.” Though Vai would leave after Skyscraper to join Whitesnake, Roth continued his solo career through the ’90s and eventually reunited with Van Halen in 2007. The quintessential ’80s frontman, David Lee Roth is essential on vinyl. Listening to his party anthems on wax is just about as fun as seeing him live—minus the spandex and acrobatics.
