  • REO Speedwagon

Originally a hard-rock band, formed in the late 1960s by a group of University of Illinois students, REO Speedwagon went on to become one of the greatest arena-rock bands of the ’80s. Its name was mentioned in the same breath as Journey and Styx – well before they all toured together in 2003 – and the band’s hit power ballads “Keep on Loving You” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling” have been slow danced to at many a prom. It took a few singers and lineup changes before REO Speedwagon arrived at the winning combo of Gary Richrath (guitar), Kevin Cronin (vocals), Neal Doughty (keyboards), Alan Gratzer (drums), and Bruce Hall (bass) that produced the band’s mega-breakthrough album Hi Infidelity in 1980, and the string of successful releases that followed. At the end of the ’80s, Richrath was replaced by Dave Amato and Gratzer by Bryan Hitt, and this new incarnation of the band remains active into the present decade.
