  • Brian Eno

The English musician/composer/producer/ambient music pioneer Brian Eno has been an influential force in music since the 1970s, shaping everything from hip-hop to No Wave to New Age. An art school student with a strong appreciation for minimalism, Eno got his start playing keyboards in the glam-rock band Roxy Music in the early ’70s. He left after two albums to pursue what would be an incredibly ambitious solo career. Using a tape recorder, he experimented with sonic architecture and went on to introduce innovative new production techniques that ultimately set the stage for sampling. He also became an in-demand collaborator, working with David Bowie on his influential Berlin Trilogy, adding “Enossification” to Genesis’ 1974 album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, writing and producing with David Byrne and Talking Heads between 1978 and 1981, and producing seven albums for U2 including 1987’s The Joshua Tree and 1991’s Achtung Baby. The master of soundscapes and atmosphere, nothing compares to Eno on vinyl.
