Plinths
A plinth is the base or platform upon which a turntable rests.
A plinth is constructed in a number of ways. One way involves a suspended type. The other method involves the construction of a solid plinth of several layers of wood. In the latter case one can add thin layers of aluminum or sheets of steel in between the wooden panels and then place the plinth on rubber feet. Such a plinth can provide harmonious sound and better dynamics in the lower register, and a firmer mid band. If the bass is not firm, full and controlled, the rest of the spectrum suffers.
Plinths are marketed by a number of companies, usually the same companies that market the turntables plinths are made to support. Some examples include Clearaudio, Creek Wyndsor, Forgings Industrial Co. Ltd, and Technics.
