iPod compatible record players can refer to those either equipped with a docking station for the iPod or a USB turntable able to transfer music from vinyl to a portable music player such as the iPod. A docking station is usually found on either upper corner of the turntable, and allows for a direct connection between the iPod and the turntable, avoiding the computer altogether. Software is usually included with USB equipped turntables, allowing the easy transference of music on vinyl to the iPod. Examples of such software include EZ Vinyl Converter, included with USB turntables marketed by the ION brand, and Audacity, a popular shareware program which allows for extensive editing of content.

There are many companies currently manufacturing iPod compatible turntables, e.g. Memorex, Crosley, Numark, Sony and Audio-Technica to name just a few.
